“That’s what family does…”

The Story of Terry & the Rubber Duckies

Terry was a man who lived his life for others. He was a friend, a mentor, and a quiet servant who found joy in lifting others up. Whether it was helping someone with a resume, offering words of encouragement, or showing up in a time of need, Terry lived out his belief that “this is what family does.”

One of Terry’s small but powerful traditions was giving out rubber duckies. It wasn’t about the duck itself—it was about the kindness behind it. For Terry, the ducks were a way to bring unexpected joy, a simple reminder that someone was thinking about you, that you were seen, and that you were valued. He left them on car handles, tucked them into offices, and handed them to friends—always without explanation, always just for the joy of giving.

Now, in honor of Terry, we want to continue his legacy of kindness. If you’ve received a rubber ducky, we’d love to hear your story!

  • How did you receive your duck?

  • How did it brighten your day?

  • Who will you pass it on to, and what act of kindness will you share along with it?

Use the form below to share your story, and let’s spread kindness—one small duck at a time. Because as Terry taught us, this is what family does.
